WordPress Portfolio Themes and the Battle for Interactive Supremacy

As the WordPress premium theme market expands, competition naturally increases and this is pushing theme developers to search for “an edge” that is going to set their themes apart from the rest.

The days of inserting a bit of bling (read flash sliders) to cajole your customer base into conversion figures are thankfully behind us. Consumers have grown savvy and demand only the best in theme quality and support.

One of the direct consequences of this in the portfolio theme niche is a recent trend in interactive innovation or what I’m calling the “battle for interactive supremacy”.

Last week, I reviewed one of the most sophisticated WordPress portfolio themes that has been released to date. It’s called the WowWay theme and it brought some much needed new interactive life to what is fast becoming a staple of portfolio designs: the image grid.

But this week, I want to highlight a portfolio theme that is pushing the bar even higher. It’s a theme called Konzept and in my video I explain what it is that I think makes this a stunning piece of work.

Thank you for this informative video, I think it will be useful for a wide audience of WP users. We believe the internet and the way people interact with it is changing, and that calls for a new way of thinking and developing. However, themes with ideology and concept like that did not start to appear just recently, our previous project Agency was released almost half a year ago, you can see it here http://themeforest.net/item/agency-fullscreen-portfolio-wordpress-theme/1025297

I agree with you on your view of UI. Another important aspect, however, is technology powering the solution – while with Flash it was indeed possible to created locked, controlled experiences unlike anything else on the internet by that time, resulting site could not be flexible or cross-platform. Nowadays, we have to create similar experiences on open technologies like HTML5 and CSS3, with associated technical requirements and challenges. You can always get a sneak peek of upcoming projects in my dribbble – http://dribbble.com/anthonyjones Currently we are working on more portfolio themes, hope they will be useful for designers. I was building my portfolio on some other theme, but when I saw Agency – it was love from the first sight, I’ve never seen something like this as WordPress theme. Both from visual side an user experience too. Personally, I think fullscreen images are the best way to present design work. Now You guys released Konzept and I just want to get it! Keep it up!

Thank you so much for your review.. I love the template, my only question is if there is a possibility of changing the slideshow so that is shows the full height of images instead of cropping them to adapt to each screen. Do you think that is easily done or should I redirect my attention to a different template, probably by the same amazing designer that did this great work! Thank you for your answer :)
